Director, Alicia Tamez
Alicia Lorena Tamez owns and directs All-Star Readers Learning Center. She is a Texas certified educator in early childhood through fourth grade and currently holds a Director’s License for All-Star Readers. Before she opened the learning center, she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Learning and Development, a Minor degree in Spanish and successfully completed the Elementary Reading Specialization Program.
After Alicia completed her studies in Austin, she returned to her hometown in El Paso, Texas where she taught first grade for seven years. Throughout these seven years, she learned about and implemented a variety of reading curricula in her classroom. This experience helped increase her knowledge and improve her skills as a Reading Specialized Educator. Throughout her years as an elementary educator, Alicia also conducted different literacy assessments (both formal and informal). She learned how to use her students’ assessment results to know how to differentiate and individualize her literacy curriculum to help meet her students’ academic needs. Finally, throughout her years as a classroom teacher, Alicia attended the University of Texas in El Paso where she graduated with a Master’s degree in Reading. After she completed her graduate career, she made the bold decision to use her teaching experience and knowledge as fundamental tools to create a successful preschool and elementary literacy tutoring curriculum and implement both in her own learning center.
Alicia recognizes the literacy programs set in place at All-Star Readers would not be successful without the help of a qualified, knowledgeable and trained staff. Presently, All-Star Readers has a staff of four teachers.

Victoria Fierro is a junior at the University of Texas at El Paso with a major in Education in Math and Science. Before she began working towards her bachelor’s degree at UTEP, she completed classes in Cd. Juarez to further develop her knowledge in Math and Physics. When she first joined the All Star Readers team, she was the lead teacher with the elementary group during the summer. Throughout the summer, she helped create fun and academically bound lessons that helped the children be better prepared for the new school year. Throughout the school year she continues to work with these students and helps them with their individual homework. She enjoys working at All Star Readers because it is a great opportunity for her to put into practice what she enjoys most about her career choice – working with children to help them be academically successful!

My name is Marissa Arellano. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. I am bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish. I graduated in 2010 from Silva Health Magnet High School. I am currently attending New Mexico State University and pursuing a degree in Elementary Special Education. After high school, I had the opportunity to work at an Urgent Care Clinic for four years where I learned more about health care. I am a responsible and hard working individual. I enjoy working with children and helping them succeed. My future goal as a professional educator is to help children further develop and enhance their learning abilities in different environments.
Working with children is an adventure when they are learning to achieve many milestones. I enjoy exploring these milestones alongside them. It fills my heart with joy to see a child’s face light up with excitement when they reach their achievements. Whether it’s learning letters, numbers or learning to be polite, I enjoy helping children! It is great to see how they gain confidence and motivation for the present and future.
